Poster Exhibition of one of the most famous and oldest Moscow theaters, the Mayakovsky Theater, opened today in the art gallery of Romanov Dvor business quarter.
A selection of best posters each being a small piece of art is displayed at Romanov Dvor. Posters are traditionally considered to be the first "contact" of potential audience with the cultural phenomenon of representation, so throughout the life of the theater every artist sought to convey the concept of the play in it, and sometimes to hint at the play's problems.
The posters to such famous plays as "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, "The Art of Career" by E. Scribe, "Long Road" by A. Arbuzov and so on are presented in the art gallery among the others.
The exhibition is of particular interest because it allows us to trace the decoration development of once revolutionary theater to contemporary academic status.
The Mayakovsky Theatre Poster exhibition will be held until 17 August.
